The shot here is an over the shoulder shot. It focusses on
how the zombie has no power as right in front of him is a weapon. This weapon
is classed as a phallic symbol; the fact that Anna the woman is carrying it is
saying she has got the power and is brave and better than someone who is
without one. The fact that Anna is blonde and is one of the final characters
breaks the codes and conventions for a brunette being a final girl as the
blondes normally get killed in horror films. After this shot she risks her life
to go back and get the boat keys showing that she’s smart. Another film that
has a strong female final girl/female survivor is Resident evil who starts a
girl named Alice who is a complete badass and is the final girl in all 6
resident evil films.
