Bates Motel image analysis Psycho 1960

In this scene from Psycho is the first time we see the Bates Motel. The whole set up gives it a really creepy look with it being in the dark and having light peering through the windows of the house on the hill.  The low angle looking up to the house connotes the power it has over Marion. In this scene the rain is falling down heavily which connotes misery through pathetic fallacy. The fact that it is nigh time as well connotes misery and death, they do this by using low key lighting. It helps to build up the tension and make you think that something Is going to happen. We can also see a figure in the window (supposed to be “Mother”) which gives us clues about the future narrative of the film.
