In this picture it goes along with the horror genre conventions as its more common to have tough women as the main characters for example you get a tough woman in the horror film Scream. she survives five films and still doesn't get killed in the end which is very similar to Milla Jovovitch in resident evil.
The guns in the image represent phallic symbols which connote male power however she is a woman which represents her status as the final girl stereotype also considering the fact that she had brown short hair which is fairly common with final girls.

The black clothing connotes how bad ass and how tough she is, although she is wearing black that can connote evil in modern movies black connotes a more tough aspect rather than evil for example the uniforms they wear in x men 3 are all black and they are the good guys.
